Veteran's Day - November 11, 2015

Lorraine Schroeder - WWII vet - being applauded by the community

CrossRoads clubhouse was filled on Veteran's Day with the local community honoring men and women who have served in the armed services. The American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary provided a huge luncheon which served around 200 people. Special guests were three WWII veterans who live in the local area: Roland "Pete" Peterson, Lorraine Schroeder and Adam Malinski. (Some of you might remember that Pete made a hole-in-one here at CrossRoads a few years ago - an exciting event for all of us!) We just want to send out our best wishes and thanks to all the men and women who have served our country... and thanks to those of you who spent part of your special day here at CrossRoads.

Fangman New House Manager at CrossRoads

(Foster County Independent - October 28, 2013)

Sue Fangman is the new manager at CrossRoads Golf Club clubhouse effective October 1.

She replaces Renee Johnson who retired after spending five years as manager in addition to part-time employment at the club.

Fangman, who has been a part-time employee for two-and-a-half years, has spent seven years in the community where she was employed by the Carrington School District.  She was a para-professional with the Special Education program.

Prior to that, she taught braille in a high school system in St. Louis, MO and also is a former LPN.

Currently Fangman is working to complete the 2014 schedule at the club and noted that several of the former tournaments have been booked along with other new events and tournaments.

"The calendar is filling up," she noted calling attention to the 10-year anniversary of the club coming in July.

This past year, CrossRoads hosted over 25 golf events and a number of course scrambles, receptions, luncheons, ladies' and men's nights and the CHS prom dinner.

Fangman noted her goal this coming year is to "reach out to more and new golfers to increase membership and play time on the course."

She also noted that the annual meeting of CrossRoads has been set for November 21 and two retiring board member positions will be up for election.

Fangman lives in Carrington with her husband, Steve, who is employed at Dakota Growers Pasta Company.  They have two grown children and a grand-daughter.

North Dakota Golf Association's Three Man Best Ball Championship

(Link here to the NDGA's report.)

It looks like there is a pattern being set at the North Dakota Golf Association's Three Man Best Ball Championship. This year, Hole 17 had a Hole In One on it by Mark Ohlhauser from the Riverwood Golf Course in Bismarck. Last year, in this 2012 event, Perry Piatz from the Oxbow Course in Fargo aced the same hole. This time Perry witnessed the swing, but was not part of the team. Mark's teammates were Paul Schauble and Brandon Wilkens from the Riverwood Course in Bismarck.

This year 26 teams competed in this tournament. In the Gross Division the first place team was N. Schaefer, M. Slominski, and M. Norby. The second place winners were T. Skarperud, C. Skarperud, and G Melhus. The Third Place team was M. Ohlhauser, P. Schable, and B. Wilkens.

In the Net Division the top placers were a Rugby team of R. Bruggeman, B. MacAtee, and R. Deckert. Second place was the team of G. Borho, J. Blada, and M. Pullen. Third place winners were E. Aldinger, D. Frueh, and M. Baeth.

It was a great tournament and great exposure for the CrossRoads Golf Course. We're looking forward to this Three Man event at CrossRoads in 2014!

Randy Sondag Did It Again!  A Second Ace!

The August heat did not scare Randy Sondag on Monday, August 26th, as he hit his second hole-in-one! This time it was on hole 12 at 141 yards with an 8 iron. Last year it was on hole 8. The witnesses for the event were Terri Sondag, Kevin Semmens, and Rich Myers. This is the 6th hole-in-one this year. Randy's name will be placed on a plaque in the clubhouse. Congratulations, Randy!

Renee Johnson stated that she would like to thank the members who brought prizes and a special thank you to the organizers: Mary Otto, Diane Larson, Judy Wolsky, Peggy Stern, Carol Rosenau, Evie Skytland, Corlis Gudmundson, and all others who made the day a success.  Also, a thank you goes to Linda Burgaard and Bev Hafner who prepared the scrumptious meal.

It's great to have such talented people so supportive of CrossRoads!

Build It and They Will Come

Foster County Independent - May 7, 2012

Editorial by Allen V. Stock

There's a phrase that comes out often, I think it was from a movie long ago: "Build it and they will come."

That phrase came to me the other day as I remembered back when plans were first prepared for the CrossRoads Golf Club now located north of the city.  I sat on that original committee and following meeting after meeting and year after year, the new 18-hole course was developed.

And, they have come to play the course.  From all over the state, many other states and even foreign countries, golfers have played the excellent facility located to the north.  Many, if not all, have commented on the excellent layout and just how supreme are the fairways and greens.

Lots of TLC and hard work each year by the grounds keepers and manager have made this one of the finest in the state of North Dakota.

We kinda' thought it would be nice when our committee first made the plans, but I think now it has done more than expected.  And, it keeps growing with members and activities.

The "build it and they will come" idea has just turned into another quote from the course that I think is a pretty good public relations move by Manager Renae Johnson and the Board of Directors.

I like to call it:  "Build it and we will come and get you" is currently what's happening as the club has contracted with a Minot bus company to load up golfers from the Magic City and bring them east to CrossRoads.

For a very modest fee, the Minot golfers will get the transportation, 18 holes of golf, a cart and lunch on Friday, June 1.

More importantly than the modest fee is that they will see one of the finest 18 in North Dakota at CrossRoads.

And after the flood last year, I think many will take advantage of the deal and escape Minot for a day ... with hopes they may just come back another day to enjoy the hospitality.

September 13, 2011 - By: Ryan Cunningham (NewsDakota.com)

VALLEY CITY (NewsDakota.com)–In one of North Dakota’s small towns, known as the “Central City”, a golfing gem is being uncovered. The excavation of that gem has been rapid the past two seasons.

There’s nothing small-town about Carrington’s Crossroads Golf Course, and the state’s golf community has noticed. The 18-hole, par 72, 6,855 yard course has drawn the attention of golfers that spend almost all of their time at the biggest names in golf courses the state has to offer.

In 2011 alone, the course has hosted a full Eastern Dakota Conference (EDC) boys meet, been named as a possible neutral site for future EDC regional meets, and hosted the Class “A” East-West crossover that involved 15 of the state’s 19 Class “A” teams. More...
